Johnny Depp and Amber Heard their devours case.

The Johnny Depp and Amber Heard case is a highly publicized legal battle that has been ongoing since 2016. The couple got married in February 2015 but separated in May 2016. Amber Heard filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences.

In May 2016 Heard also filed for a restraining order against Depp, alleging that he had been physically and verbally abusive towards her throughout their relationship. Depp denied the allegations and accused Heard of trying to extort money from him.

In her filing for the restraining order, Amber Heard submitted photos showing bruises on her face which she claimed were the result of physical abuse by Johnny Depp. She also submitted a statement detailing incidents of verbal and physical abuse throughout their relationship including an incident in which Depp allegedly threw a phone at her, injuring her eye.

Depp denied the allegations and his representatives released a statement describing Heard's claims as "salacious false stories, gossip, misinformation, and lies." Depp's lawyers also claimed that Heard was attempting to extort money from him by making false allegations of abuse.

The case became highly publicized and polarizing, with supporters of both Depp and Heard expressing their opinions on social media and in the press. Some people sided with Heard and believed that Depp had been abusive towards her while others supported Depp and believed that he was the victim of a false accusation.

Despite the controversy, the couple reached a settlement in August 2016, with Depp agreeing to pay Heard $7 million. The settlement included a non-disclosure agreement, which prevented Heard from speaking publicly about the allegations. However, in 2018, Heard wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post in which she spoke out against domestic violence and did not mention Depp by name, leading to the subsequent defamation lawsuit filed by Depp.

In August 2016 the couple reached a settlement with Depp agreeing to pay Heard $7 million which she pledged to donate to charity. The couple issued a joint statement saying that their relationship was "intensely passionate and at times volatile but always bound by love."

However in 2018 Heard wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post in which she spoke out against domestic violence and did not mention Depp by name. Depp then filed a defamation lawsuit against Heard claiming that she had falsely accused him of abuse and damaged his career.

The case went to trial in July 2020 in the UK, where Depp sued the publisher of The Sun newspaper for calling him a "wife-beater" in an article. The newspaper had referred to Heard's allegations against Depp. The court ruled in favor of the newspaper finding that the allegations were "substantially true."

In November 2020 Depp announced that he had been asked to resign from his role as Grindelwald in the "Fantastic Beasts" film franchise. Depp's fans rallied behind him with many calling for a boycott of the franchise.

In March 2021 Depp lost his appeal in the UK, case with the court upholding the ruling that the allegations were substantially true. Depp also filed a $50 million defamation lawsuit against Heard in Virginia which is currently ongoing.

The case has sparked a larger conversation about domestic violence and the #MeToo movement. It has also highlighted the complexities of celebrity relationships and the difficulties in determining the truth in cases of abuse allegations.
